Open Technologies Engineering to Build Data Center for X5 Group
Open Technologies Engineering has begun constructing a new data center for X5 Group, serving as the general contractor covering both design and construction. The facility will become a cornerstone of X5’s digital infrastructure, ensuring the stability, autonomy, and scalability of the company’s IT services. It is scheduled for commissioning in Q3 2026.
The data center will host X5’s internal IT systems, including logistics, analytics, and retail operations management. It will also support core infrastructure development, cloud solutions, big data services, the integration of artificial intelligence technologies, backup systems, and other digital platforms. The project is designed to provide a flexible environment for rapid deployment and scaling of new products.
Spanning approximately 6,000 square meters, the facility will adhere to modern standards of fault tolerance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability. With a total power capacity of 10 MW, the facility is being built to meet Tier III certification standards as defined by the Uptime Institute, ensuring high availability and resilience.
Particular attention is being paid to environmental impact and energy efficiency: the facility will feature dual independent power circuits, backup power from on-site generators, and a highly efficient direct fresh air cooling system (DFC). These engineering solutions will ensure uninterrupted operation of critical IT systems, achieve a low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) ratio, and reduce the overall environmental footprint.
Alexander Kostin, Managing Director of X5 Tech:
“Digital infrastructure is a strategic priority for X5. Owning this data center will reduce reliance on third-party providers, enhance service reliability, and deliver superior solutions for users. It will also cut total ownership costs and reduce operational expenses by over threefold”.
Oleg Gavrilov, Director of IT Services, Support & Infrastructure at X5 Tech:
“Operating our own data center elevates our team’s expertise. We’re implementing global best practices — advanced cooling, power, and automation technologies —to ensure speed and reliability. A dedicated in-house team will manage all engineering systems, including power and climate control”.
Evgeny Virtser, CEO of Open Technologies Engineering:
“This project is both an ambition and a challenge we’re equipped to tackle. We appreciate X5’s trust and the chance to drive digital transformation in retail. Beyond building a 24/7 scalable infrastructure, we’re prioritizing energy-efficient, eco-friendly engineering to support cutting-edge technology adoption”.
